MUMBAI (AP) - The slum kid stars of "Slumdog Millionaire" want a lot of things in life_new houses, a car, trips to London and Paris_but they aren't too interested in school. Ten-year-old Rubina Ali has missed nearly 75 percent of her classes and her co-star hasn't done much better truancy that filmmakers say will jeopardize their trust funds and monthly stipends if it continues. Their parents blame the absences on deaths in the family or other misfortunes, including the demolition of Rubina's shanty by city authorities earlier this year, and have promised to do better.

MUMBAI (AP) - Slumdog Millionaire" child star Azharuddin Mohammed Ismail and his mother moved into their new home Tuesday, leaving behind a corrugated metal slum shanty for four solid walls, doors that lock and an indoor toilet."I was shocked when I saw this house," Azhar, 11, said, before turning on one of his favorite Hindi songs and dancing around the living room. "I want to thank Danny Boyle for giving us this flat." Boyle, the director of the Oscar-winning hit, and producer Christian Colson will transfer the $50,000 one-bedroom apartment to Azhar's name when he turns 18, provided he finishes school. 

The 10-year-old child star of "Slumdog Millionaire" was awakened Thursday by a policeman wielding a bamboo stick and ordered out of his home. Minutes later it was bulldozed along with dozens of other shanties in the Mumbai slum he calls home. "I was frightened," said Azharuddin Mohammed Ismail, who lost his pet kittens in the chaos. "Where is my chicken?" he asked forlornly, picking through the shamble of broken wood and twisted metal sheeting in search of the family hen. 

MUMBAI, India - Rubina Ali's house is flooded with sewer water, and her feet itch. She's discovered a world of creepy-crawlies in the opaque gray water: scorpions, rats and slithery creatures with lots of legs. Two months ago, the child star of the hit movie "Slumdog Millionaire" was worrying about what to wear to the Oscars. Now she has come home to a very different problem: How to get the fetid water out of her family's one-room shack. The 9-year-old picked up a plastic bucket Monday and began to scoop, but it was hopeless.
